Parent Information
August 2019 Newsletter
Dear Parents,
We would like to welcome your children to physical education. The P.E. Teachers for 2019-2020 are Mr. Matt Mangan, Davey Cheek and Mrs. Wendy Rinesmith and Matt Cerione. Students in grades K-5 will have P.E. class for two 45-minute periods each week. Since children are involved in physical activity everyday, we would like to suggest that tennis shoes/sneakers be worn to school on these days for participation in these activities. Boots, dress shoes, Crocs, Flip Flops, and sandals are not appropriate for physical education and the risk of injury increases when these types of shoes are worn. Children do not “dress out” for physical education so they should dress appropriately on their P.E. days.
Students will be graded by their P.E. teachers. During each grading period, new skills are introduced and practiced by the students. The P.E. grade is determined by their participation and skill development on the skills taught during that nine-week period. A conduct grade is also recorded on the report card and is based on proper use of equipment, and overall behavior in class. Conduct notes will be sent home if a child is exhibiting consistent inappropriate behavior in class. These notes should be signed and returned to the P.E. Teachers by the next school day.
If your child is unable to participate actively in P.E., please send a written note to us explaining the reason and length of time that he/she must be excused. After one week a doctor’s note must be provided for the child to be excused from P.E.. Alternative P.E. activities will be provided as the lesson for those days.
We appreciate your time and support for a fun and safe year.
Sincerely,
PE. Staff
